Tucson is not Tuscany, but close?

Since Thomas has been traveling so much for work lately I talked him into going away for the weekend. The conversation may have gone a little something like this.
Me: "Thomas I need a break, I need to get away from it all. I need a weekend trip. Or I will crack, tare my hair out, and grow a beard."
Thomas: "Okay, sure. Who is going to watch the kids."
Me: "We are you dork."
Thomas: "And how is this actually getting away from it all?"
Me: Shot him a wicked stare
Thomas: (being the smart man he is) "Sounds great, whatever you want."

I decided we should go to Tucson because one we haven't been there, and two we've done all of the other AZ sites (aka Grand Canyon, Sedona, Flagstaff). After the three hour drive, eating at a Subway that was part of a gas station (let's just say I am not going to be able to eat Subways for awhile), checking into the hotel and having the kids literally jumping on the beds and touching every single thing in the hotel room, we decided we had better get out of the room before our trip was cut extremely short due to a death in the family, and went to the Pima air and Space Museum.

It was so much fun to see Tommy and the kids running from one plane to another.

Rainier enjoyed learning all about jet engines...

and loved the open space with lots of shiny big things to look at.

The girls loved digging in the sand on Mars.

Goofing off.

And touching absolutely everything.

They anxiously awaited to get on the flight simulator.

And played airline the entire rest of the trip. Tommy was the captain and had to do a captains dialogue every time we went somewhere in the car.(He does have quite the hot captains voice.)

The girls were impressed and said they never knew a museum could be so much fun and that you could actually touch things there.

After a good 3 hours at the museum, we were famished and had a great dinner, went back to the hotel, went swimming and rented UP off the hotel TV. A perfect end to a perfect night...well not quite Rainier decided to scream 75% of the night and allowed us to extend our perfect night all night long. Luckily, with the help of Denny's (why is breakfast so dang good) and another dip in the pool, our lack of sleep had been forgotten and we were ready to hedge onto another adventure.

We decided that instead of looking at five million saguaros and the Saguaro National Park we would head the other way and go to the Colossal Caves and try that out. Thank goodness for GPS.

I have decided that someone with 'texture issues' (don't ask you should know by now I am a weirdo) probably shouldn't go on a cave tour.

So with 'texture' and Rainier being squirmy for the entire 45 minute tour it was a bit hectic but we had a good time and were ready to hit the road.

Thanks Thomas for the getaway and thanks for helping me check somethings off my infinite list that is in my brain somewhere:

Travel to Tucson. (Won't go back again, sorry Tuscon I think you're ugly, but thanks for the memories.) CHECK

Breast feed 70 ft below the surface in a cave, standing up. CHECK top that.

Hold a squirming, whiny, yet incredibly cute baby for a 1.5 mile cave tour. CHECK, maybe the night before wasn't entirely forgotten.

Keep 4 children entertained for an entire weekend without having any meltdowns (including my own). CHECK, well almost, that last hour on the way home was a bit rough.

Cram 6 human beings into one hotel room. CHECK but thanks to Rainier probably wont be doing that again.

Build great family memories and remember the importance of doing things as a family. CHECK

Thanks Tommy for the fun, fun trip.

Tucson is UGLY. We should make up a cheer about it that would end with

What's wrong with that cave?? Looks like a fun time...especially with a wriggly non-sleeping babe.

Awesome. I hate sharing a hotel room with the whole family, it totally ruins the experience for me. You're a fun family!
