Almost

Claire is EIGHT....
well on the 30th she will be.

Since Thomas and I will be gone on her actual Birthday we celebrated a week early.

Claire didn't seem too disappointed by that aspect of the deal.
Opening presents a whole week early wasn't a bad deal at all.

And since, she's been begging me for about 2 years, getting her ears pierced a whole week early at her favorite store "CLAIRE'S" seemed just about perfect to her.
The end result was of course, Magnificent!

Blarring Justin Beiber on the stereo during the ride home pretty much put her in Heaven and the two other girls were right there with her as well, although they were trying to pretend like they weren't that into it.  But I am here to let you know that they were all singing along like there was no tomorrow.
Tommy had Claire choose where we should go for dinner.
And Rainier was in heaven then because we were outside on the patio, and I was in bliss because everyone was content and happy.
After dinner Tommy took the girls to a movie and Rain and I chilled at home for the evening.
All Claire could say was:
"Thanks for the best birthday ever!"
"I have the best family."
"If I could choose between my family and my friends family I would probably choose our family."
"I love you guys so much!"
I was a little startled with her appeasement, but
I'm so glad that she was so enthralled with her birthday, we love her so much.

Introducing...

Allison the Extraordinaire

My fourth grader spent the better part of the year in Drama Club getting ready for her very first school production.
I was so proud of her auditioning for the part with no fear and getting a part while she was up against 4th to 8th graders.
She was cast as a witch named Encantadora in a quirky little play called "Holka Polka".
She often went to practice at 7am and loved every little bit about it, especially the days of the performances when I found her smothering her self with my blush and lipstick.

Thomas was going to be out of town for the night of the parents performance so he took the morning off and we were able to catch the first act with the entire Kindergarten through 3rd grade.
They were well entertained by the whole crew.

I was able to catch a peek and steal a hug from my absolute favorite 2nd and 1st grade girls!
They're so cute.

Bravo Alli, :)
We are so proud of you!

SWEET

Monday morning came and I awoke to a sparkling clean kitchen. Do you know what that attests to? One stinkin' good Mothers Day. Are you jealous?  Of course not, because I know we are all blessed with just as wonderful husbands. Aren't we all so lucky?

It's okay, though, if you want to be a little bit jealous of these fun tennis shoes Tommy picked out as a gift for me. I love them! They're super light, and super comfy, but most of all super cute, and I have to admit 99% of the time that is the only characteristic I care about in shoes.

Claire snapped this photo of Tommy while he was finishing up my Mothers Day dinner, I was boozin and snoozin in my bedroom. Alright strike boozin, it was just a little diet coke. You might be a bit envious of my pulled pork burritos and DELICIOUS fruit salad though, but then again you may not because you may not even like burritos, so we might be safe.

I on the other hand am JEALOUS that my husband is too cool to get off the phone while 'posin' for a picture for me. Don't you dig the new suit I had to convince him to buy? I think he looks so HANDSOME, but you shouldn't because he's already spoken for. So keep your eyes off. Say a little prayer for him though. He flies out tonight for interviews to get into grad school at Carnegie Mellon in Pennsylvania, we're super excited.

Thanks Tommy BOY for such a nice, relaxing, practically PERFECT Mothers Day, I am positive it was every Mothers Dream, but really it's only my dream that matters.
Kiss-Kiss.

A Loving Mother

I was blessed on this earth; I was blessed to have a mother with me until 16, and I was blessed with another mother shortly after 18. When I married Thomas I was welcomed into his family, almost instantly, and always felt at peace in his childhood home. With that childhood home came a camaraderie of his younger brothers and sisters, something I hadn't ever experienced and also came a set of in-laws. Now I have heard numerous nightmare stories about mother inlaws, but this will not be one of them. This story is a happy ending.
Teresa; Thomas' mom, my mother in-law, and my children's grandma, better known as grammy, is as far from the stereotypical mother in-law as you can get.

Teresa has often been a quiet advisor in my life. Quiet in that fact that she has her opinions and ideals yet she is not one to force them onto you. She has always been conscious of the fact that she does not want to have others feel that their opinions are wrong if she doesn't agree. I have come to rely on her deeply. When we talk on the phone, I find myself confiding in her, and being immensely grateful for her listening ear and her words of wisdom. I find joy in our conversations and am so thankful to have a mother figure in my life to receive some counsel from. She is so kind.

Teresa is a seamstress. She'll work tirelessly to please those whom she is sewing for. I've seen her sew many prom dresses, costumes, vests and such and I've watched over the past 11 years sew wedding dresses, including mine. Each time painstakingly sewing each stitch hoping, and I'm sure praying that her work will satisfy the beholder, and each time it does. She is so talented.
With each new child that I have welcomed into this world she has graciously helped me. After moving away from Colorado she has flown/or driven, even on short notice, to be here for us and has stayed for about a week to help with the postpartum blues. I have had many of conversations with her days after giving birth, tears uncontrolled and have had her confident, reassuring, words calm my fears, ease my burdens, and instill in me a confidence in motherhood. She has scrubbed floors, cooked meals and taken kids to school. She has given each of my newborns their first baths, something that I take such pride in and she has given me much needed advice on the do's of newborns. She is such a wonderful woman.

When Grammy comes to visit, each of my children are thrilled. Grammy doesn't over do it. She doesn't feel like she needs to bribe or put on a show. It's her constant love and comfort that brings the excitement to our home.  How we love to have her at our table, to hear her voice around. She brings the feeling of "home" and the feeling of love. There is a feeling of loss when she leaves from her visits, and emptiness that can only be filled when we are around her. She is so caring.

Claire was named after grammy; Claire Teresa. There was no mistake in this; Claire has taken attributes from her for sure. Her beauty, her strength and her love to work hard are all things that exemplify her grandmother. I find great joy in the bond that her name brings to she and her grandma, and the great pride that Claire takes in it. It is something I am proud of too. I hope Claire will be as wonderful as her grammy.
Thomas age 5or 6 and his mom

To me, Teresa is the epitome of Motherhood. I have watched her take joy in each of her grandchildren, showing them patience, smiles, her creativity and most of all her love. Having 8 children of her own, she dedicated her life to them. She was a stay at home mother, a committed church member, and a wonderful example to her children. All 8 of them have grown into wonderful adults, attending the temple, working hard, and have become my best friends ever. They are a loyal family, who, at a moments notice will drop what they are doing to help you out.  They are a giving family and will share all they have. They are a fun family, who enjoy rowdy games, and good talks of fun. I am so thankful to them for sharing their mother with me. I have seen her pain as she has moved away from her children and grandchildren. Her desire to be near to them, to take part in their daily lives, to be, what I perceive, is her true joy.  She is a wonderful mother.

While I don't know everything about Teresa's life, I do know enough about her to know that she is a wonderful woman, an amazing mother, and a magnificent person and I am a better person, mother and wife because of the influence she has had on me.

Through New Eyes

It dawned on me the other day, that we now have a walking, semi-interested toddler on our hands, and I thought it would be fun to see what this little guy thought of some local habitat. So for FHE we headed down to a little community duck pond (pond is a word I will use loosely since it really is a containment of reclaimed water, blah with strict signage warning against swimming/drinking/bathing in said water) Not to worry we did obey the signage, all of it except for guidance to restrain from feeding the local fowls....ooooppps.

We were greeted by this lovely gosling family upon arrival and all of us girly girls squealed with joy.

I was quite chipper to be out and about in the beautiful weather and Rainier felt the same way I think.

Yes, I am quite sure of it.

The girls had a blast feeding the geese and ducks and were even a little freaked out by the geese who constantly hissed at them for more food, and perhaps a warning to stay away from their young.

Whenever we go, our favorite is always the cesspool of a pond...the reason being:

no not because you can eat the left over stale carbs, mostly because....
when you throw those stale carbs into the water....
MONSTROUS quoi appear and fight, and jump, and squirm to receive our delicacy. It is quite entertaining for sure. Not so entertaining is being splashed by the local "poo" water as my children have so lovingly labeled it.

A quick run around the park,

a walk around with dad,

all followed by a climb in this awesome tree, allowing a little photo-op for the girls
(Rainier was not happy to be in the tree).

One...
Two...

Three...
and our evening ended with a run to the local bookstore where the girls batted their eyelashes and pouted their puppy dog eyes and convinced their daddy to buy them a book.

It was quite a beautiful night.
