So my whiney post was un-appreciated. Sigh. I guess I'll have to do a chipper post instead.
Its been a week and I'm getting used to the Pitts.
My eyes have grown accustom to the cracks and crumbles, the mulitude of power lines criss-crossing back and forth, the narrow streets, or narrow "everything" for that matter and I hardly notice the old worn out town and I am starting to notice the beauty.
Firstly with my home.
Ours is on the right, with the white door.
I love the porch with the black and white checkered tile, the brick, and the all glass weather door.
Its a simply beautiful day today and Alli is out there reading right now, I'm might join her in a few.
I love the old mailbox. Did you see those stairs to our door? Those stairs are in front of 80% of homes here in the Pitts, and guess what? The mailman walks up every single one of them to deliver your mail right to your door, I love that.
I love the molding here, ours is worn and tattered but it brings alot of character to the houses here, craftmanship, something you don't see much of in the west.
The old hard wood floors, with their nooks and grooves bring a sense of story in the house.
I love the smell of the cedar closet. Probably the only closet in the house that doesn't smell like old lady and better yet, no moths will be getting in here.
I love the story behind these raunchy things, Pittsburgh toiletts. In any given basement you have one. The story: When the coal miners would come home from work they would enter through the basement, take off their filthy work clothes, hang them up, and then do their business downstairs before being greeted by their family.
I love this doorknob, its in the basement and is the door to the cold cellar, yep I have a cold cellar fancy I know. :)
I love the old sturdy industrail look of this key hole and all.
These great things are on a few of our doors here, the only problem...they don't lock. Uh-Oh!
And obviously, I find beauty in this charming little thing that hangs in my dining room. I'm pretty sure its a cheap little replica of something or other but it brings some interest downstairs for sure.
Thomas and I have always said we'd love to live in an old house, the truth is we would LOVE to live in an old house that has been gutted and then properly redone with all of the classic hardward and all of the modern amenities...maybe someday.

So fun! I love the charm. It would be fun to re-do some stuff though huh? Do you make Tommy do his business before he goes upstairs to meet the family?
Nice old world charm! Great outlook, finding the beauty beyond the blemishes. My husband is required to do that daily. Keep posting, I miss you.
I am home now and I miss you terribly. I am kind of glad I missed the loading, and moving, and goodbyes. I see lots of beauty in that new place of yours. There is GREEN around, another thing we don't have. And as for me...I think all men should do that dirty business in the basement!!
I am really going to enjoy your posts since I lived back East too. It is such a different dynamic going from AZ, where all is new and fresh, to more "weathered" and laden with "history."
I really like those bricks...watch out for that first heating bill in the winter, those can be a bit scary.
Oh I love it! It reminds me of my child hood, I grew up in 100 year old house that some didtant relative had built. it is an adjustment to go from new to old, but so much character...love it.
I would love that too. I have a friend who bought a 100 year old house up in the Avenues (up on the hill in Salt Lake) and gutted it and renovated it. It took a full year, but it's BEAUTIFUL. I would so love to do that some day. Your moulding is super cool. Will they let you paint or change anything? I'd be happy to do those kinds of touch-ups to make it feel more homey.
Oh I'm so glad to see this, but I want more of the rooms and shtuff! Keep 'em coming. You know I love all that character. It's just like an old book...you just wonder where it's been and whose lives it's influenced.
We all miss you but I admit I am a bit jealous of all the fun stuff you're up to!
I am SO jealous! What I would give to have a porch like that! Oh and the cute little mailbox and chandy and moulding. How fun for you to make it your own!
wow so positive! Looks beautful!
Love the house you chose! So many special features - and coming from Arizona, you certainly appreciate them all. Glad you and your family love your new place!
