April showers bring May flowers

Spring Break finally came last week here in the Pitts.
It was a full week of sleeping in, staying in pjs a bit too late and finding things to keep ourselves busy.

The girls have been obsessed with The Cake Boss lately so I mentally prepared myself for a mess and had each one make their very own cake.  They were thrilled. They did a really good job of coming up with ideas of how to decorate them and then enjoyed eating them for breakfast for the rest of the week.  I'm awesome I know.  Besides letting my kids eat cake for a week I also took some of our neighbors kids to Dunkin Donuts while we were walking to the library, both of them sort of had guilty looks on their faces but happily enjoyed their donut. It wasn't till later in the day that I realized that it was Passover that week and they weren't supposed to be eating any yeast, yup Awesome I know.

There are times when I think I may have had too many kids, those times mostly occur when they all are asking me different questions at the same times, fighting or when we're trying to do crafts together. A friend of mine sent me a link for an easter project where you blow out eggs, then wrap them in silk scarves or ties and boil them, the egg then will have the pattern of the silk fabric and you'll have a neat little keep sake.
I tried to prepare myself mentally for this project, I did. I went to thrift stores and found the silk, bought the eggs, allowed each kid to blow out the yolk, Rainier only broke 2, but it started getting a bit hectic as the fabric needed to be cut and wrapped around the egg and then rubberbanded to stay on. I of course didn't have any rubber bands so we used tiny plastic hair bands. Once each egg was covered and ready to go I plopped them into the boiling water and let them go.
The only silk items I could find were ties so our color scheme was a bit dark; blues, purples, and blacks, but they had cool designs. The allotted time was up and we anxiously looked into the pot, the water was a sickly black and all the rubberbands on the eggs had broke. We ended up with a huge mess, blueish black eggs, a pot I felt like needed to be sanitized because of the grimey dirt that was left from the fabric, (gag), a huge mess of cut up fabric and egg yolks, and a headache.
But I'll tell you what the girls love those eggs and think they are the most beautiful things ever.
Heres to building memories.

At our house we have a little chant, "Mom is great! She gives us chocolate cake!"
