Simple Treasures

There was a talk in sacrament meeting last Sunday where a sister had talked about raising her children and having to simplify her life...I really related to her since she, like me, had three children 3 years old and younger. When I was in that situation it was such a hard time in my life, but looking back it just flew by. Now with Rainier, I find myself having to adjust back to simplifying and while its been hard to do it has been a necessary step for my quality of life.
When Alli was just a baby my mother in law Teresa came to Denver for a visit. She was kind enough to bring the ingredients to a Gearhart family favorite, cabbage burgers. They take a long time to make and I was greatful for the time and energy she put into teaching me how to cook them. The time I spend with her is always so special to me. She is such a giving, loving, person and has taken me under her wing and treated me as her own daughter. I'm so thankful for that, I've needed that in my life and I'm so glad she taught me how to make the goodies otherwise Thomas may have had to divorce me :)

Yesterday I dropped off some toys at the Good Will and went inside to peruse the merchandise. Summer is coming up and so I was looking at the children's books and saw the complete set of The Chronicles of Narnia and Anne of Green Gables. I got them at a steal for 99 cents a book. A few have already gone missing, I might have started Anne of Green Gables already and the girls each grabbed a Narnia book. It was so cute this morning when I dropped them off at school, each with open book in hand walking across the street. (Don't worry the crossing guard was making sure they didn't come to their demise all for their love of books.)

I also found these adorable mugs at Good Will (for a steal of 69 cents). I loved that they were hand painted by someone and couldn't resist snagging them up. What I was going to do with them I honestly wasn't sure. But Rainier and I had a beautiful time picking flowers out of a wash by my house and I am sure enjoying them on my counter.

Today was a good day.

Yummo! What a great family recipe, you'll have to let me sample one some time! And your Goodwill finds look fabulous. Glad your day was swell.

Both those series are in my top 5alltime favorites... you need to read the prequel to Anne of Green Gables titled "Before Green Gables" by Budge Wilson. It's all about Annes life before she ends up at the train station to meet Matthew. I loved it!

What a good post and great reminder. I can think of so many times I made an effort to simplify and then with time it got complicated again. Thank you for helping me renew my effort.
