HHHMMMMM.......

AINSLEY

(At about 1 1/2years old)
5 years old

Ainsley (says this to me in church on Sunday) : "Mom I want to use my site words, look 'I see my..." I want it to say I see my cat."

Mom: "Okay well this says 'I see my...' so now you need to spell cat."

Ainsley: "I know"

Mom: "Okay you spell cat, C-A-T"

Ainsley: "NO! I already have 'see'. SEE!"

Mom: "Yes I know, that's great, that is the word see, now you need to use the letter C, because cat is spelt C-A-T. So write C-A-T.

Ainsley: (Getting more and more annoyed with me by the minute) "NO, that is not how my teacher does it! I want it to say "I see my cat."

Mom: (Getting more and more frustrated by the minute) "I know Ainsley, I am trying to help you. You need to write C-A-T, that spells cat."

Ainsley: (Getting even more defiant): "NO! I already spelt see, this says 'I see my...' I want it to say I see my cat!"

Mom: (Now turning red and wondering if the bishop really is staring at me because I am getting mad at my precious child in church) "I know Ainsley, I am trying to help you... you have already written 'I see my...' now you need to spell cat, by writing the letters "C-A-T".

Ainsley: "That is not how my teacher does it!"

-This happens a few more times to where Ainsley is almost in tears, and now I am certain all of the bishopric can see my fiery eyes.

Mom: "Well I just can't help you now, then. You'll have to ask your teacher how to do it...."

Ainsley: "She does it like this!" (She then proceeds to draw a picture of a cat)

-I guess I should have known...or at least tried to spell dog.

CLAIRE

(At about 15 mos old)

6 years old

Claire: "I had a nightmare last night, I don't want to go to bed."

Mom: "What was it about?"

Claire: "I had a dream my kitty was trying to give me a bunch of shots."

Mom (chuckling a bit): "Yes I can see how that would be scary but you can see how that couldn't ever happen."

Claire: "Yes I know, but it was still scary."

Mom: "I bet. How was the kitty holding up the shots to give them to you? That seems a bit advanced for a kitty."

Claire (with a slight smile): "I know, I'm not sure, but she was going to try and give me a bunch of shots."

Mom: "Well, obviously that couldn't happen, so you should be safe to go to bed. Dreams aren't real."

Claire: "I know dreams are FICTION, mom, but I don't want to go to bed."

-Smarty Pants!

ALLISON

(Almost 3)
8 years old

Alli (at the dinner table): "Tonight I am going to leave out a piece of chocolate and a note so the fairies will leave me a note, and maybe a prize."

Dad: "There is no such thing as fairies."

Alli: "Yes there is!"

Dad: "How do you know fairies are real.?"

Alli: "Well, my friend at school left out a note for her favorite fairy (which Alli then names) and she woke up in the morning and the fairy left her a note and some pixie dust."

Dad: "Maybe her family did it for her, fairies are not real."

Mom:"Just let it go, Thomas."

Girls: "Fairies are too, real!"

Dad: "No they're not, why on earth would there be fairies, what purpose could they possibly serve?" (Man he's a 'GIRLY' party pooper)

-Alli, now tearing up.

Dad: "Look Alli, I'm just telling you, you can't believe everything everyone tells you. Fairies are not real."

Alli (balling now): "Well I guess you're going to tell me that Santa Clause and the Tooth Fairy aren't real either."

Dad (realizing his disastrous mistake) suddenly doesn't have much to say.

Ohh, that last one made me SAD! Poor Alli! I can't believe how grown up your girls look, especially Claire. I saw "Claire" but I thought you must have mislabeled it because I was sure it was Alli. Your girls are so pretty! Can't wait to see your boy.

Too funny, I'm pretty sure I've had an eerily similar conversation with Avery since school started. I'm positive I'll never be as smart as Mrs. Connelly!

You have the prettiest little girls. I envy you I need a girl in my family. I remember I'm not sure if it was Claire or Allison but one of them was following me around at my reception telling me how pretty I looked. Such girlie girls!
