Lighten Up!

It may be the change in seasons, or the fact that we've been in this house for 5 years, but I have been feeling like the decor is quite dark and dreary, so I decided to lighten things up a smidge.

Behold my absolute favorite change, just above my fireplace. A giant, vinyl tree with hand cut leaves in gold, silver, black, brown, and white, accompanied by some fun little birdies.
I love what you can do with vinyl, the possibilities really are quite limitless...where there's a will there's definitely a way.

I recovered some of my pillows to add a few more punches of color. But I have decorators ADD and have stopped in the dead middle of that project.

I have been having a blast going to thrift stores and purchasing milk glass, old hard-bound books in various colors, and finding other fabulous finds, like this frame for $2.00 that just so happened to fit my odd sized family picture. I have also been rehabbing some old things of mine, like the mirror which I spray painted silver.

The kitchen received a bit of a change as well, with more vinyl decals above the cupboards accompanied by a  few accessories including some rehabbed plates I placed vinyl birds on. (Yes it is apparent to me, I am into birds right now.)

Along with a few more punches of color, I think I am finally getting the brighter look I was going for. I am not 100% satisfied so I am positive there will be a few more changes coming.

But alas, I have suffered from my ADD downstairs and am now dreaming of my loft upstairs and am planning on doing some black and white. Thanks to my dear friend Erika for these absolutely amazing silhouettes, not to mention the gorgeous pictures she took of my kids last fall, placed in a rummage sale frame find for $3, I am well on my way! I can't wait to get moving on the changes upstairs, well alright actually I can. I might have a bit of ADD with decorating right now as well. :) Go figure.
