I kid, I kid.

Each year when it comes around to Birthday time for my dad, I am always at a loss of what to send him. Some years I won't send him anything, others I'll send him a gift card, but usually I send him junk. My dad has a funny sense of humor and so we'll send him odd things like three stooges masks, prayer candles with the catholic pope on it, or even one year my sisters got him a goat...which he didn't keep...I just don't understand why.

So in January I was pleasantly surprised when I was perusing Walmart's fabric section and found some lovely fleece to make my dad a blanket out of. I really could not believe my eyes. They had two whole bats of this beautiful Barack Obama fleece just calling my name. Every time I went to the store I walked by to make sure it was still there .

So this Monday when I was there to do some grocery shopping I happily walked myself to the fabric department and picked a yard of the glorious fabric. I took it up to the counter to get it cut and was met by an older lady (we live next to Sun City so quite a few work here). The lady promptly asked me “Are you an Obama fan?

“Well no mam actually I’m not. I am buying this as a joke for my dad’s birthday present.”

“What a horrible joke!” She replied “I am so mad at this guy I am almost about to write a letter to him, however I better not, because then I will be on the terrorist watch list.” (I believe that would now be called the human caused disaster list.) Anyhow she continued “I am so mad I could spit, I better stop because I am making my blood pressure rise. Obama thinks he is some sort of rock star…Do you know how many people he took with him to Europe?” I shook my head 'No'. She continued to tell me all sorts of things while her hands were shaking and fire breathed out of her mouth...

Finally she was done giving me the weekly low down on Obama and she said "Well maybe he'll wash his car with this." (meaning my dad and his new blankie) and I quickly replied "Or maybe he will use it for target practice." She was then relieved and let me on my merry way. I must admit I felt a little bad that I ensued this sort of reaction from her, especially when it was just a joke, but on the other hand it was quite amusing to me. Oh sometimes I just love Walmart!

So I guess all hail to the Rock Star and I hope my dad likes this birthday present as much as the goat.

I LOOVE it, I am so glad you did it. You must write about his response. I especially love the story of the fabric lady's reaction.
